Tragedy strikes Bessie and William once again. In 1901 they lost one of their twins, John, at 10 months. Now Bessie is pregnant with her sixth child due in four months time.
James was 19 months old when he died. The cause is recorded as Acute hydrocephalus. Three days. William signs the register with an x, it notes he was present at the death.
The child she is carrying will be called Nicholas James Vines - but his family will know him as Jimmy or Jem.

The cause of death is given as "diarrhoea 5 days". The death is registered by William Vines, his father, who was present at the death.

Norah died at three weeks old. The registrar notes "infantile debility, no medial attendant" - a condition where a child is unable to absorb nutrients - it can be caused by any number of reasons: food intolerance, congenital disease, malnutrition, heart problems.
Regardless of the reason Norah is the third baby Maggie and James have lost in succession.

Benjamin Joseph Henderson - Registration of Death

Ben died on 4 January 1904, he was 18 years old. His mother, Elizabeth, is the informant and notes she was present at the death.

The cause is given as 'Mitral disease of the heart | two years | certified". It refers to the mitral valve in the heart. The job of the valve is to keep blood flowing in one direction - mitral valve disease refers to an irregularity with the functioning of the valve.

Many people experience no symptoms - given the noted 'two years' it indicates Ben was ill - common symptoms are a cough, shortness of breath, weakness, fatigue, light-headedness.

Ben died at home in 3 Sunnybank, Kilpedder at the age of 77.

The cause of death is listed as cerebrovascular accident (a stroke) and atherosclerosis (due to narrowing and hardening of the arteries) .

It also notes peptic ulcer disease, COPD (Emphysema) and his old T.B. lung.

The cause of death is given as acute renal failure brought about by septic shock, fecal peritonitis and cryptogenic cirrhosis.

Willy died on 21 January 1946 young at 32 after fighting meningitis for five days.
There is no family knowledge of any illnesses or accidents that preceded the meningitis - Willy worked as a ploughman right up until he became ill. The infection quickly took hold and he died shortly afterwards.

Elizabeth died at only 14 years of age. Her cause of death is listed as suffering from Cerebral Meningitis for 14 days with the final two days in a coma.

Her mother Elizabeth, present at the death, signs the register with an X. The registrar writes "Elizabeth Henderson her mark" beside the X.
At that stage Elizabeth had remarried at was now a Farrell, this may just be an oversight by the registrar who assumed the name.

I'm not sure if Elizabeth had family with her when she died but my father, who was 7 at the time, recalls their mother getting off the bus from Wicklow and telling them Elizabeth had died.
