On the day in question, Ellen approached Joseph with her accusations, and an argument ensued. Ellen accuses Joseph and his wife Bridget of assault. Again Ann James and Patrick Brennan support her claim. In turn, Bridget Byrne counters that Ellen assaulted her. The Justice dismisses both claims of assault and theft against Joseph. Both Ellen and Bridget are bound to the peace for one year with a sum of £3 and two additional sureties of 30 shillings. The principal sum of £3 will be forfeited to the Court should the bond be broken. In this case, the women are also required to have two separate sureties of 30 shillings. Sureties are additional individuals who are willing to back the good behaviour of the individual, breaking the bond will cause each surety to forfeit 30 shillings to the Court. Petty Court Session |

The Court awards John 5s and Ellen must also pay 1s 6d costs to be paid within 14 days.If Ellen defaults the Court will automatically issue a 'Warrant of Distress' - a writ that will allow an authorised person to seize Ellen's property to pay her debt to John. – | After a series of altercations between the Doyle and the Brennan families, the parties are called to attend the Newtownbarry Petty Sessions in Wexford. John accuses both Patrick Brennan and Michael Brennan of assaulting him on August 12th. In turn, Patrick is fined 10 shillings with an order of seven days hard labour in Carlow gaol should the fine not be met. Michael receives a one pound fine with the threat of ten days of hard labour in Kilkenny gaol. Patrick counter-accuses John of assault resulting in a fine of five shillings with the threat of seven days hard labour in Carlow gaol should the fine not be paid. Michael also protests that he was assaulted - however, this complaint is dismissed without charges. Ellen is in court to answer a complaint set forth by Michael Brennan. Michael accuses Ellen of allowing four of her goats to trespass in his field of crops. Michael states that this occurred, coincidently, on August 13th, the day after the altercation with her son John. She is ordered to pay Michael sixpence plus additional court costs of two shillings. The Justice orders that Ellen's goods may be seized in the event she does not pay. This will also incur an additional fee of six-pence to issue the warrant. Subsequently, Patrick Brennan makes two separate complaints concerning the 18th and 19th of August, about Ellen having "allowed four goats to wander on the public road." Patrick is the only witness and Justice dismisses both cases without costs. Petty Court Session |
